Georgia On My Mind
I just returned from a wonderful trip from Lake Burton in the mountains of Northern Georgia. Although the weather was less than the ideal southern temperatures for April, I still enjoyed the nice time with my family. I find myslef missing the world of sweet tea (which I don't drink), cobbler, windy roads, small backwoods stores and true southern hospitality which is strongly lacking in the East Coast (generally such unfriendly people).
We played a lot of tennis (had a tournament) a Fooseball tourney, pool, a few games of Blokus, hiked, shopped, and played two rounds of hide-and-go-seek. I swam once to the dock across the bay (small bay) and steadily measured the different levels of shock and hypothermia I was going through. Stupid to do it, I know. We ate a lot of biscuits, went out for a meal and ate at Batesville General Store the sweetest place in all Greater Rabun County/Habersham County area. Overall it was a relaxing week and I think everyone had a good time (including Addy who is short of three months old).
At the end of the week (sunday) my cousins Jack and Sara with their baby and myself climbed into the rental car to head back to Nashville. About 1 hour outside of Nashville I discovered my flight to La Guardia had been cancelled. About two hours and four phone calls later I went from a departure time of Monday morning, Monday night, Thursday late to finally departing on Tuesday morning early. So I was still stuck in Nashville for two days but it is better than all the way through Thursday.
Lucky for me I have a friend in Nashville who put me up for those few days who has a roommate who let me borrow her car. The plane delay ended up being such a blessing to have the chance to reconnect with Liz and see a bit of Nashville. The blessing is of course aside from the horrific migraines and vomitting episodes. Anyway, 53 hours after leaving the cabin I arrived at my apartment door in driving snow with a slight tan and a horrible sock line from the sun exposure.
